Strands of Aloha
This koinobori incorporates two traditional lei styles of Hawai’i. Using ti leaves and raffia, Haku (braided) lei weaves together flora symbolizing honor and celebration. With a needle and thread, Lei Kui (strung) strings an array of blossoms into a gift of aloha. The deeply rooted tradition of lei-making connects an individual to person, community, and land, resulting in an expression of belonging. The koinobori is exhibited at the Tokyo Midtown Children's Day Exhibition 2026.
